Deck the Halls

It's that time of year to start thinking about Christmas! I have decided to make most of my ornaments this year therefore, I am starting a bit early this year. Since I have moved to England I won't have all of my decorations I have collected over the years --time to get sewing! Here are step by step directions for Christmas Tree Ornaments.

Step 1: Cut two triangles out of your chosen fabric [this will be the tree part of the ornament]

Step2: Turn the two parts of the fabric so the right sides are together

Step3: Sew the right and left side of the tree while leaving the bottom open

Step 4: Turn the fabric to the right sides are on the outside

Step 5: Lay flat and make sure the corners are all out. You might want to use a sharp object to help push the corners out

Step 6: Stuff the stuffing inside the tree [if you don't have stuffing then you can use old scrap fabric but make sure it isn't dark fabric because then you will be able to see it]

Step7: Cut two strips of fabric for the trunk of the tree

Step 8: Sew the two strips together

Step 9: Trim around to make the perfect size for your tree

Step 10: Tuck the trunk into the bottom of the tree and sew [fold the edges in so you have a clean line]

Step 11: Optional Directions include adding embellishments to the tree. I added a button on the top with red thread. I also added red thread to the top so I can hang it on my tree.

Note: I did not add stuffing in the red trunk of the tree and ribbon would work perfectly as well as fabric. Also, if this tree were to be made bigger then it would be a cute throw pillow for added holiday decorations!

Men's Shirt made into a SKIRT

Step 1
Lay Shirt on a flat surface

Step 2
Cut off the top and sides of the shirt like the above picture

Step 3
Cut the bottom 2 1/2 inches off the bottom of the shirt

Step 4
Pin the sides together and try it on. If the skirt is to small (like it was on me) cut panels out of the sleeves and sew them into the sides. The sleeves panels that I used were both 2 1/2 inches wide

Step 5
Sew the panels in the skirt and sew the sides together

Step 6
Fold the top of the skirt over making a one inch seam. This seam should make a tunnel which you will then put the elastic into. [Keep a small opening to insert the elastic]

Step 7
Insert the elastic [I didn't have sewing elastic so I used 1 1/2 elastic sport headbands] If you are to use the elastic headbands then make sure you cut the metal part off to ensure your skirt is comfortable.
Note: watching youtube videos are helpful in learning how to make the tunnel

Step 8
Sew the two ends of the elastic together and sew up the opening.

Step 9
Iron and Enjoy!

I did this project in two-3 hours. I looked at several pictures from Pinterest and just started cutting and sewing. I hope these directions help!

Little Love

There are a lot of special people in this world and many of them come in the form of friends. I happen to have some amazing friends who I cherish more and more everyday. One of my friends is expecting a little baby girl who is due to arrive on Valentine's Day. So as always I wanted to show my love for this little one by crafting. After much inspiration from Pinterest I found just the thing to welcome our new little friend-- Bitty Booties.

I was pleased to find the pattern and wonderful instructions on http://www.heatherbaileydesign.com/BittyBooties.pdf
Please stop by her website and check it out!

Project time only took a couple hours and there was no sewing machine required. It is the perfect project to do while watching your favorite program on television. I can't wait to make more!

Pinterest Inspired

Oversize men sweater made into a vest.

My inspiration for this project can be found at the following website.
dee-construction.blogspot.com

Step by Step directions to create a Vest out of a sweater
{sorry for the lack of pictures}
  1. Lay the sweater on a flat surface
  2. Cut down the center of the front of the sweater
  3. Cut around the collar of the sweater for a better fit
  4. Cut the sleeves off the sweater
  5. Cut 2 inches (or more) off the bottom of the sweater for a better fit (optional)
  6. Cut the front flaps of the sweater to your liking. {This can be either straight edges or rounded edges}
  7. Turn in the edges of the sweater and sew a new seam {Sew around the entire sweater even the sleeves}
The embellished back of the Vest {optional}
  1. Use excess material from original sweater and cut a five inch strip of fabric
  2. Lay the vest on a flat surface and place the strip in the middle of the vest
  3. {optional} My vest was still too big in the back to under the strip of material I gathered the extra material in the center of the strip before sewing. {see picture above or message me questions}
  4. Hand sew the right and left side of the strip onto the vest.
  5. Hand sew one button on the right and left side for extra embellishment
As always, please contact me if you have any questions about the above project.
